Below is a selection of itineraries you can follow to discover the Intrasca Valley. Choose the one that suits you best.

These scenic routes give you magnificent views of Lake Maggiore. Discover the woodland trails deep in the valley forest and walk the paths leading into the Val Grande National Park, Italy’s largest natural wilderness.

Morissolino and Morissolo: an action-packed trail

Along the military fortifications of the Cadorna Line, you come to the twin peaks of Morissolino and Morissolo, where you can enjoy one of the most spectacular views of Lake Maggiore.
From the top of Morissolino, you can see 50 kilometres of Lake Maggiore in a single view: unmissable!
Mount Morissolo is criss-crossed by a dense network of military remains: dirt tracks, trenches, artillery positions and dug-ins, built in 1916 to defend against a possible German attack through Switzerland.
Don’t miss the chance to visit the recently restored gunholes, complete with lighting system. It’s quite an experience to go from the rocky mountain trails overlooking the lake into the cool underground caves to explore the firing stations, all pointing towards Switzerland.

Mount Spalavera, the “disputed” mountain

The summit of Mount Spalavera, 1,533 metres above sea level, is a fantastic vantage point and is renowned for its incredible panoramic views of the horizon.
To get there, you will cycle along old military roads winding through fields, ancient meadows, beech and birch forests.

Marvel at the remains of trenches and pathways taking you deep into caves dug into the mountainside, military structures from the last century, a barracks, and a dug-in guard post hidden among the beech trees.

Aurano and the “curt” tour around the Lake Maggiore ZIPline

Along this circular route, which starts and ends at Segletta near the Lake Maggiore ZIPline, you’ll discover the environmental and cultural landmarks characteristic of the entire Intrasca Valley.

The “curts” were traditionally the mountain pastures near the village, the only land available for grazing livestock. The Lake Maggiore ZIPline now passes above them.

The trail takes you into a fascinating world of majestic beech trees and crystal-clear mountain streams. This is the heart of the Intrasca Valley, where life was once punctuated by the calls of shepherds echoing across the pastures.

Family ride on the military road from Colle to Folungo

This figure-of-eight route winds along the recently restored and mostly flat military road, taking in exciting views and splendid panoramas around Lake Maggiore, the Po Valley, Monte Rosa and the Swiss Alps.

Ascent to Mount Zeda and a wonderful view of Lake Maggiore

Along the highest military road of Lake Maggiore, straddling the rocky ridge that separates the Intrasca and Cannobina valleys, you’ll climb right to the top of the “Zeda”. The panorama that awaits you takes in the horizon from Mount Rosa to the Swiss Alps, passing from the wild Val Grande down to Lake Maggiore, the plain and beyond…

The first stretch follows the military road, which climbs up the slope via a series of hairpin bends to Pian Vadà. From here, the military road turns into an easy and mostly flat path that leads to Piè Zeda, before rising steeply to reach the top of Mount Zeda.
